Fibre Art Animation
Stop Motion Scarf (SACI 2023)
The animation department at Mercury Filmworks piloted a new professional development initiative in December 2023 that saw the animation team pitch & produce small animation-related projects that could be completed within a week. I’ve always wanted to try stop motion animation with fibre arts so I decided to do a proof-of-concept test with a functional, knit scarf that doubles as a stop motion animation piece.
This scarf was designed & knitted in the span of (a little over) a week during a new professional development initiative at Mercury Filmworks; when the panels are photographed & played back in sequence it plays an animation of a bouncing ball. The design includes a border motif reminiscent of a film strip, and variegated yarn for an old school line-boil feel.
You can find more photos and information about the project on its Ravelry project page.
